Why Does My Cat Blink Slowly At Me?

The slow blink- or fluttering blink- is perhaps one of the sweetest feline gestures.  When a cat greets another cat or person with slow, deliberate blinks, the action communicates affection.  As noted in Adriane Bishko’s article in PetMD.com “What Your Cat’s Body Language is Saying”, closing ones eyes in the presence of another is considered the ultimate sign of trust in the feline world.

How should you respond if your cat blinks at you?  Try returning the gesture!  As Bishko explains, when you blink slowly at your cat “you are communicating that you are aware of its presence and pose no threat.”
